*Both locations include a light breakfast and lunch
9:30am-9:40am WELCOME (10 minutes)
Hear from Thuy Wong, CEO of CharterSAFE, as she welcomes us back to our in-person Summit!
9:40am-11:10am THE JOURNEY: BEFORE, DURING, & AFTER BAD THINGS HAPPEN (90 minutes)
Join your CharterSAFE leadership team for a session on how we partner with our members before, during, and after bad things happen. In this session you will learn about the risks charter schools face, growing trends, and some tips in how to prevent and mitigate against these exposures. We will also talk about the insurance that protects you when bad things happen and how those coverages are affected by a challenging insurance market. Finally, hear what claim trends are occurring and how you can play a positive role in the claim process.
11:10am-11:15am BREAK (5 minutes)
11:15am-12:00pm HOT HR TOPICS FOR THE 2022-2023 SCHOOL YEAR (45 minutes)
Join us for a discussion of major HR issues we expect charter schools to experience during the 2022-2023 school because of COVID-19’s impact in the workplace over the last 31 months. We will provide strategies and tools how to deal with the following HR issues to protect your school against employee lawsuits: employee accountability, compliance with wage & hour regulations, and managing employee performance issues for employees on intermittent or ongoing leaves and accommodations.
12:00pm-12:30pm LUNCH (30 minutes)
12:30pm-1:45pm A ROAD MAP TO MANAGING LEAVES & ACCOMMODATIONS (75 minutes)
Learn about the steps to effectively manage the many aspects of compliant leave administration starting with information to give to your supervisors so they know when to direct an employee to HR for assistance. We will provide you with tips and advice how to manage the leave process before the leave starts, what to do during an employee’s leave and how to transition the employee back to work or to the reasonable accommodation/interactive dialogue process if they cannot return to work. We will also discuss the administrative process when an employee asks for a workplace accommodation that is unrelated to a leave of absence. Attendees are encouraged to take our HR 106 and HR 107 online, on-demand courses on Leaves of Absence for an in-depth explanation of the federal and state leave laws.
1:45pm-1:50pm BREAK (5 minutes)
1:50pm-2:30pm WRAP UP (40 minutes)
Time to test out your newly acquired knowledge during an interactive anonymous game. You will also have the chance to ask any lingering questions from the day’s sessions, or perhaps from something we didn’t get a chance to go over. There will be prizes handed out at the very end so be sure to stick around!
